The Mural
A 30 x 10 foot installation created by artist Megan Barnes
Overlooking the court will be a 30 x 10 foot mural created by artist Megan Barnes.
Megan is an Arlington-area local and a former Somerville High School basketball player whose work centers on visual storytelling and representation.
Her installation will feature Pat Connaughton and Miles Robinson, creating a powerful visual reminder for kids playing on the court of what dedication, creativity, and opportunity can lead to.
A Personal Connection
The project carries a deeply personal connection.
Megan's father grew up in Arlington and played on this very court as a kid — a court that has not been renovated since.
Now, decades later, Megan will create the artwork that overlooks the newly transformed space.
Youth-Designed Pattern
The mural will also incorporate the design pattern created by youth during the Design FC workshop, ensuring their creativity becomes part of the court's identity for years to come.
When kids wear the jersey and look up at the mural, they will see themselves reflected in that dream — and understand that it is something they can achieve.
The hope is that this jersey becomes a symbol of what access to play makes possible — a reminder that any kid can achieve the improbable in any space through opportunity, creativity, and belief.
